Kmart SUPER Doubles

Meghan, the blog author of Savvy Spending, has the low down on this round of Kmart's SUPER Doubles! The SUPER Sale that boasts of doubled coupons up to and including $2 coupons, begins today in select locations! (Finally, Michigan and Ohio residents get something a little special!!!)

In my experience, Kmart's prices are higher than the norm, but doubled coupons usually allow for FREE or inexpensive toiletries and cleaning products!

If I were going to shop the Doubles, I'd take the $2 All laundry coupons with me, as well as any special coupons that I may have received directly from a manufacturer (usually these are higher in value). P&G coupons are often higher in value, and I'd definitely look at the printable coupons at Coupons.com and Red Plum.com to see if there are any that might be more beneficial to spend at Kmart this week.

Keep in mind that the Kmarts that are doubling this week are the full grocery store Kmarts- so don't overlook spending your grocery coupons!

Lastly, Kmart now has a 'loyalty card' of sorts. You must register before you shop. You will have two options for redeeming your doubled coupons (15/day) before your perminant arrives in the mail: 1. print out a paper copy of your loyalty card (this is what I have done in the past) or 2. give the cashier your pone number at the register! ***Savvy Spending has the scoop on this card as well!

Best of luck! I'd LOVE to hear about the deals that YOU'VE scored!

K Mart SUPER DOUBLES Scoop

Meghan, of Savvy Saving, has the scoop on K Mart's SUPER DOUBLES starting on Sunday, April 4th (Easter Sunday). Meghan has discovered that shoppers who would like their high value (up to $2) coupons to double, will need a special K Mart card.

***K Mart's SUPER DOUBLES, if you have yet to participate, are certain weeks that K Mart allows us coupons spenders to double our discount by having our coupons doubled. Previously, there had been no limits to the number of coupons that a shopper may spend, but K Mart has continuously been tightening its "acceptance belt," and now we will need a special card that will track the 5 coupons that we will be allowed to spend per day. YIKES, this is getting ridiculous!

*FYI: word around the blogosphere is that Kmart *may* only be doubling Proctor & Gamble coupons... I'll keep you updated as I find out the scoop!

For my non-Michigan readers, click here to see if your local store is participating!

Kmart: the Good, the Bad & the Ugly

First, the GOOD news.
Once again tomorrow (8/30-9/5) holds the promise of $2 doubled coupons, where a $2 coupon magically transforms into a $4 coupon in the land of Kmart Super Doubles.

Yes, there are rules for shopping...
1. Kmart allows coupon spenders to use up to 10 coupons per day/ up to 4 identical coupons.
2. Coupon spenders must purchase at least $25 worth of merchandise before coupons to be eligible to have your coupons doubled.
3. Internet printable coupons are allowed.

My suggestions...
1. Shop early in the week before the shelves are cleared of all of the goodies... Kmart does not restock well.
2. Check out Hip2save.blogspot.com for an extensive list of coupon matched items... keep in mind she is using prices from another region.
3. Bring a friend along... shopping is more fun with companions!

The BAD news:
Sadly, the entire blogosphere claims that this may be the last Kmart Super Doubles for 2009. I talked with a customer service rep. at a local store several months ago and she shared this very same info with me... although, at that time it was strictly speculation.

All of this info leads me to the UGLY:
This same customer service rep. let me know why Kmart had been continuously tightening their Super Doubles list of rules and exclusions. It seems that too many Kmart customers were purchasing carts brimming with awesome coupon deal items- only to return to the store the following day to return most (sometimes ALL) of the items purchased just to get the cash!

Let me explain. When you purchase an item with a coupon, the coupon becomes the store's property- which they then are reimbursed by the manufacturer for. After your coupons leave your possession you may NEVER have them back.

So when you return an item, the store is obligated to give you the cash value of the coupon that you spent since they are unable to return your coupon to you... do you see where I am going with this?

Kmart has been experiencing extreme coupon fraud, and FYI, Kmart is prosecuting local shoppers.

I thought I'd take the opportunity to share a few thoughts about returning items since not all returns are fraudulent in nature.

An occasional return for a justifiable reason is OK. It's human to accidentally pick up the wrong item, or to decide that you don't care for a particular item. One return in a 'Blue Moon' is fine. If you find that you are constantly retuning items ask yourself if it is really worth it!

Unfortunately many couponners are taking advantage of the 'get cash for your coupons' in returning items. This really is an addiction for some and it can lead to court, hefty fines and even jail time... yep it is happening here in Oakland County MI.

I'm asking each of you to be aware of your intentions in returning items to the store in which they were purchased.

Here is how I personally handle unwanted/unneeded items that I have purchased.

1. If I have purchased 6 bottles of shampoo on sale and with coupons, and the shampoo makes my scalp itch like crazy-then I would return it to the store. I would bring my receipt and I'd let the store know why I was returning the shampoo AND that I had spent coupons as part of my payment method. The store will still have to give me what I had spent plus the coupon value back to me, but I will offer to take store credit- so I can respect that store by keeping the money with them.

2. If I have purchased 6 bottles of shampoo on sale and with coupons and I just don't care for the shampoo since it makes my hair flat... then I will either find a friend who likes that shampoo and give it to her, I may use the shampoo as a substitute for shaving cream on my legs or I will donate the unopened bottles to my local food pantry.

The difference between the two scenarios above is whether or not the item can be safely passed on to another person or use in your home.

I think that if you were NOT a 'return items kind of shopper' before you began using coupons, than you really need to take a moment to evaluate why you are returning now that you spend coupons. Could you find a new home for the product? Or do you just want your money plus the additional coupon money in your wallet?

K-Mart's Super Doubles are Back!!!

K-Mart will be doubling coupons up to $2 again this week! So pull out all of your 'high value' coupons and head to K-Mart this week!

Keep in mind:
You must collect at least $25 worth of merchandise to purchase BEFORE your coupons will double (weird, I know)... but don't worry the $25 in merchandise just needs to be calculated before you factor in your coupon savings!

More recently, K-Mart has only been allowing 4 identical coupons per transaction, and even limiting coupon spending to 10 coupons per day per person (Hmmm, bring your kids!) but I haven't been hearing that for this round of Super Doubles!

Your coupons will double up to the value of the item that you are purchasing. For example, say you are purchasing a tube of Crest toothpaste for $1.75, and you have a $1 coupon... you will receive $1 off for your coupon, and K-Mart will match the coupons value up to the purchase price, so K-Mart will give you $.75 off, making your Crest FREE, but without coupon overage!

Visit www.hip2save.blogspot.com for an extensive list of FREE or at least deeply discounted items this week at K-Mart... I'd print the list to use as a reference! *You may need to scroll through more recent posts to find the K-Mart deals...

WORD TO THE WISE: K-Mart does NOT do a great job of fully socking and restocking their shelves during their Super Doubles sales... shop early for best selections!

I'd LOVE to see your goodies if you'd be willing to share a picture with me!!!

KMart & Kroger

To say that I have been very disappointed in KMart's Super Doubles this week would be an understatement! I shopped three times before I actually made a purchase!

At KMart I (finally) purchased (4) 4 roll packs of Angel Soft TP, (4) 3 roll packs of Sparkle PT, (2) boxes of fruity Cheerios (I had assumed that they were included in the GM 4/$6 deal- nope!) and the jar of Peter Pan (I spent a $1 coupon I received in the mail).

I had planned on using a $5/$25 coupon that I found in the cart at my first empty handed trip, but I was not allowed to use this coupon in conjunction with my manufacturer coupons being doubled. I was bummed- so much red tape with the KMart Super Doubles! I paid with a gift card that I was given from another really bad shopping experience. So at least it didn't cost me anything!

If I wasn't getting such great deals and FREE stuff, I'd skip KMart all together!

The apples and marshmallows were from Kroger. I could have paid $2.59 for large Jet Puffed marshmallows, or $1 (10/$10) for the small Jet Puffed marshmallows... and since they were for Rice Krispy treats. I could NOT have purchased the store brand for less than the mini Jet Puffed.

So all in all I spent $5.22 for these products!

K-Mart's Super Doubles are Back!!!

Starting Sunday June 7- Saturday June 13 Kmart will be doubling coupons up to $2 (a $2 coupon magically becomes a $4 coupon at the register).

All Michigan stores are participating, but shoppers are only allowed 10 coupons per day. Yikes! Last time it was 25 coupons per person.

There is a HUGGIES diaper deal running: Purchase select Unilever, Kimberly-Clark and SC Johnson Products and get a Catalina coupon to use on your next purchase!

Spend $20, get a $3 Catalina

Spend $35, get a $7 Catalina

Spend $50, get a $14 Catalina

Diapers are $9.99/pkg, so you could buy 5 packages and another inexpensive item that qualifies for the promo to get your total up to $50 (5 pkg's of diapers =$49.95... not $50). Then use the $5 off $50 coupon (available at www.kmart.com).

$50 in diapers + 1 small qualifying purchase = about $50
-$5 Kmart coupon = $45
- (5) $1.50-$2 coupons = $25-$30
receive $14 in Catalina's to spend on your next transaction.

...so pay $5-$6 per pack of diapers and get $14 back to do all over again.

***Remember to send your Huggies receipts to www.caregiversmarketplace.com to receive a $.75 rebate per package of Huggies diapers.

Doubles at Kmart?

It has been a wishy washy week for Kmart.

Kmart had advertised doubling coupons again this week (5/3-5/9) but then they took back their offer. It seems that some Kmart's will be doubling up to $2, but we are to check our flyers from this weekend's paper. You could call your local store if you'd prefer not to wait...

Grocery Shopping at Kroger

Grocery Total: $ 44.41
Spent: $19.61 & Saved: $24.80
19 coupons used
***$19.99 rebate to follow***

Buying a turkey in April is as silly as going to Dairy Queen in January... in my opinion!

BUT... I would buy a Turkey in April if I was going to get it for FREE!

Unilever is running a promotion. If you purchase $40 worth of Unilever family products during April then Unilever will reimburse your Easter ham or turkey up to $20.

Dove, Axe Degree & Suave are all Unilever products, and I have scored $43 of them this month between rolling my store rewards at Walgreen's and my doubled coupons at Kmart. I did spend $4.50 + tax on my Unilever products, but I earned $24 in store rewards from my purchases.

The Turkey I purchased normally retails for $25.99 but it was on sale for $19.99. Plus, I had found a tear pad in Kroger about 6 months ago for $5 any Jennie-O Homestyle Turkey.

So I paid $14.99 for my $26 turkey, but I will receive $19.99 back in a rebate check!

I hope this turkey is yummy!

Here is a picture of the Unilever rebate form. It was only available in clippable form from the Sunday paper a few weeks ago. If you think that you may have enough Unilever products purchased this month to qualify for a rebate feel free to email me (through the blog email in the upper right hand corner of the homepage) I have a few extra copies!
