Meal Plan/Grocery List: January 10th Weekly Edition

Creating this new meal planning/ grocery list feature of Sharpen Your Scissors is a work in progress! I am planning to continually add recipes and pictures... this should be fun! Please bear with me for the first couple of weeks while I am getting myself up and running!

Sunday
Pot of the Week (*POW): Mashed Potato Soup

Monday
Grilled Chicken, salad and green beans

Tuesday
Tacos and refried beans

Wednesday
Red Beans & Rice and salad

Thursday
Chicken Pot Pie and Salad

Friday
Grilled hamburgers, side veggie,? and a salad

Saturday
Off the Hook Night: This is my floating night off from cooking,
we will either eat leftovers or go out to eat!

*Disclaimer:
I give myself (and you too) permission to swap meals during the week!

*POW: The idea behind having a Pot of the Week is to have something yummy for dinner on Sunday's that can be (effortlessly/brainlessly) cooked all day in my crock pot. Then, we can either enjoy the pot's contents for lunches during the week, or freeze the leftovers for later consumption.

Confession: I have never tried to meal plan (unless we are taking food up north on vacation) in my life... I've strived to stick to my meal plan- but it just isn't how I 'work!' Naturally, if left to my own defences, I will just sift through our pantry and our freezer and just pick something to make, or Dave and I will just pick something that we are in the mood for. Meal planning (and sticking to it) is tricky... any advice?

*POW: The idea behind having a Pot of the Week is to have something yummy for dinner on Sunday's that can be (effortlessly/brainlessly) cooked all day in my crock pot. Then, we can either enjoy the pot's contents for lunches during the week, or freeze the leftovers for later consumption.

Grocery List:

Meat
*2-3 Pounds of Ground Beef (I plan to make a double batch of Chili, so I will be needing 3 pounds)
*Meatballs (I recently purchased a 5 pound bag at Gordon Food Service, $8.99)
*Bacon (you can use either bacon crumbles or crumble your own)
*Hot Dogs
*Pepperoni (or other topping for your pizza)

Dairy
*1.5 cups of Cheddar Cheese (1 for the Quiche, 1/2 cup for the Chili and Chili Dogs)
*3 Cups of Mozzarella Cheese (1 for the Baked Spaghetti Pie and 2 for the homemade Pizza)
* 1 Tub of sour cream (topping for the Chili)
* Cup of Half & Half (I use milk) for the Quiche)

*1 Refrigerated pie crust (for the Quiche)
*Feta (or other Pizza toppings of your choice)

Packaged
*1 Jar of Alfred Sauce (or better yet, my Homemade Alfredo Sauce)
*1 Jar of Spaghetti Sauce (or better yet, my Homemade Tomato Sauce)
* 2 Packets of Chili seasoning
* 1 Package of Egg Noodles (for the Meatballs & Alfredo dinner)
*1 Box of Angel Hair pasta (for the Baked Spaghetti)

Canned
*3 Cans of kidney beans (for the Chili)
*3 Cans of diced or 'chili ready' tomatoes (for the Chili)
*1 Can of pizza sauce (you most likely will only need 1/3 of the sauce. Freeze the remainder of the sauce.)

Frozen
*1 Bag of frozen broccoli (Quiche)
*1 Package of frozen garlic bread
*1 Package of french fries

Fresh
*Lettuce
*Tomato (for the Pizza topping)
*Your personal favorite salad toppings
*Salad dressing (try my favorite salad dressing)

Other
*1 package of Hot Dog buns
*Pizza dough options: You can purchase frozen dough, purchase a Bobboli crust, or you could make your own dough (Tutorial Tuesdays' post this week- purchase yeast of you plan on making a batch in your bread machine along with me!)

Assuming You Have On Hand:

*Cooking spray
*Flour (for making Pizza dough)
*Various spices for the Pizza dough: onion powder, garlic powder, salt
*Baking powder
*Olive oil
*Ketchup & mustard
