Coupon Clipper: I have two quick questions.

1. I think I pretty much have the hang of Register Rewards at Walgreen's, but I ran into one thing last week I was unsure of. My item cost $1.99 and they told me I couldn't use a $2 RR because it exceeded the price of what I was buying. I got a 30 cent travel Kleenex to make it work, but I would have rather not. Were they right???

2. I went to get the .99 chex mix at Target with the $1 off coupon and she told me I couldn't use it because it was more then the item. I asked her if she could mark down the coupon and she said no. I know it has worked for others, but is it up to the discretion of the check out person?

Me: When you have a problem with a cashier always ask for a manager.

The store does have the right to ask you to purchase an additional item to help with the coupon overage problem. Coupon overage is when your coupon value exceeds the price of the item that you are purchasing with the coupon.

an additional item "eats" up the overage. If you would prefer not to have coupon overage (in cases where you'd have to just spend a penny on something else in the store) than ask if you could have your coupon adjusted down to the price of the item being purchased with the coupon. Sometimes this is allowable- but it up to the discretion of the cashier/manager.
