Q & A

From an email...

Coupon Clipper: I stocked up on 6 bags of the Tyson Boneless Skinless Chicken that you bought a few weeks ago and I have a rain check to go stock up on more. I am worried it is going to get freezer burned. Any tips on keeping it fresher longer so I can stock up on more at the great price of $2.99 a bag?

Me: Way to go! Stocking up on meat is brilliant!

When I purchase frozen chicken it has always been eaten before it has gotten freezer burn, but I'll share with you my fresh chicken tricks that I think you can use just the same.

I fill a Ziploc bag with enough chicken for a single meal for my family. I like to add a marinade to the bag- allowing the chicken to marinate while it is freezing and then to marinate while it is thawing before use. Using this system I am able to preserve my chicken, pre- prepare my meal and squeeze out any air from my Ziploc and reduce the risk of freezer burning my meat.

I think, if you want to get ambitious, you could boil some of your chicken and 1) slice it into strips for stir fry or pasta dishes, or 2) flake the chicken and ready it for tacos or to make chicken noodle soup. Both of these pre- cooking ideas will get dinner on the table faster and will have you messing your kitchen only once!
