Tutorial Tuesday: Pulled Pork

How is it that I just discovered how DELICIOUS pulled pork is? Now I scope out the pork section while grocery shopping!

Ingredients: pork, BBQ sauce and water.

Begin by placing your pork in your crock pot. I had to slice mine in half, which isn't fun, but is totally worth it!!!

Drizzle the entire bottle of BBQ sauce and add half a cup of water to the crock pot! Cook on low for 6-8 hours, your house will smell amazing!

After the 6-8 hours, remove your pork from the crock pot, remove the gobbly-gook (that's technical jargon for fat marbling on your meat), and shred. Go ahead and taste test a little bite... heck, take a little taste test in my honor as well!

Lastly, either add a little bit of the liquid left in your crock pot to the shredded meat, or add more fresh BBQ sauce- and enjoy!

My husband likes to eat his pulled pork sandwiches with a little cole slaw on top, but I'm more of a plain Jane.

I don't know why it took me so long to discover pulled pork, but we love it.
Whenever I make some kind of shredded meat in the crockpot, I find it's not as dry tasting if I shred it and then put it back in the pot for another 30 minutes or so.

We LOVE pulled pork in our house but I've found that a Boston Butt (which is on sale at Kroger this week !) is a much better cut for pulled pork and usually cheaper. It makes a very moist pulled pork. I make mine in the crock pot as well but I cook it in beef stock, onion, garlic, 1 tbl liquid smoke, and 1/4 cup of coffee. I also liberally coat it in salt, pepper, and cajun or creole seasoning before plopping it in the crock pot. After I shred the meat I add a little bit of the cooking liquid and then stir in my BBQ sauce. So yummy! We usually eat ours with sweet and sour coleslaw...but on the side.

Love pulled pork - we also like to add in some liquid smoke. I do this in the crockpot too sometimes. Another yummy recipe in the crockpot is pork & 1 envelope onion soup mix. Cook on low for 8 hours+. That's it. No water, nothing else. It makes its own juice. The only thing is that the onion soup mix is high in sodium.


Oh I love pulled pork as well. My dad mixes sweet baby rays and open pit together (about 1/2 cup of each) to make a yummy sauce. I found a recipe for homemade BBQ sauce that is the best. So I usually do that with my pork shoulder in the crock pot. Here's the recipe if you ever want to try it!
1 C. Ketchup, 2 T. worcestershire sauce, 1/4 C. Vinegar (white), 1 t. each of chili powder and salt, 1 C. water, 1/2 t. celery salt, 1/4 t. pepper, and 1/2 C. of brown sugar. Mix it all together with some liquid smoke and oh man, the best bbq sauce ever.
