Help for Haiti
My husband Dave and I are still in shock, as we think about the utter sadness currently taking place in Haiti. Although I have never set foot in Haiti myself, my heart melts from the photographs that my husband returns with of a beautiful country and its beautiful people.
I feel guilty going about a typical day knowing that so many will be crying themselves to sleep tonight. Life had been difficult for the people of Haiti before the earthquake, and now many are homeless, helpless, even orphaned and are in desperate need of our help!
The good news is that help, and hope are already in Haiti, ready to assist the afflicted. World Vision, a global outreach organization is focusing their efforts to meet the basics of food, water, hygiene and shelter at the epicenter location, Port Au Prince.
Raincatchers, who many of you have already made donations to assist bringing clean drinking water to some of Haiti's poorest families living in the rural mountain regions, is also making plans to assist the needy in the wake of the earthquake aftermath.
Because of the overwhelming need in Haiti, I have teamed up with many other bloggers who want to raise awareness and funds for those living in devastation after Tuesday's earthquake in Haiti.
Help for Haiti
For every person who leaves a comment, January 15-21, 2010, sharing how they have contributed to meeting the great need in Haiti, I will donate $1 to Raincatchers ongoing mission work in Haiti!

We ourselves feel that what we are doing is just a drop in the ocean. But the ocean would be less because of that missing drop.
-Mother Teresa
Please continue to keep the Haitian people in your thoughts and prayers!
Personal Note: Spending coupons, for my family, means spending less for what we need so that we have more funds left over at the end of the month to spend on things that are important to our family.
Many coupon spenders are banding together, offering what they can- to help the hurting in Haiti. I thought that I'd share some ideas of sacrificing that others have mentioned in case you are searching for a way for your family to make an impact in Haiti right now.
Finding Ways to Give:
1. Take time and effort to eat from your stockpile this month, and offer the money that you would have spent on groceries to a relief organization.
2. Collect all of the change laying around your home, and cash it in.
3. Skip dining out one night.
4. Return your empty pop bottles/can.
5. Offer your time/skills (like babysitting...) and offer that income as a donation.
Every little bit does indeed help! Relief organization are highly skilled in stretching their resources farther than we can begin to imagine!

Hubby and I agreed on a monetary donation. Part of the reason that we can afford to give is because of the blogs, like yours, that I follow which help us save so much week to week. Thank you so much for your generosity in this time of need in Haiti, I hope it is contagous!
It is great to see how so many people are coming together to help those in Haiti that are going through this tremendous tragedy.
How generous and kind of you.
I gave to Compassion International and the Red Cross. Thanks for doing this!

My husband and I are using the money we've saved on groceries this month to give to the people of Haiti.
We donated to the US fund for UNICEF and also to a local (Kentucky)-based charity called Ten Kids whose goal is to provide a safe home, education, etc. to Ten Kids http://www.tenkids.org/. I like the idea of giving to an organization meeting general needs of the people of Haiti and to one meeting the needs of specific children. We are so blessed--I can't imagine the losses of the Haitian people.
We know some people who live down there and work daily with the Haitians so we gave them some money to help out with whatever they need to help.
We have given $,1,600 designated towards Haiti and have asked our Pastor to use it as a tool for match/encouragement to the congregation

We will be making a donation to UMCOR (United Methodist Committee on Relief) at church on Sunday.
I also found out today that someone in the company I work for ships containers to Haiti at least once a month in support of an orphanage. I have gathered my fellow teammates and we are having a "drive" to collect HBA items, like toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap, shampoo, along with food items, the biggest being peanut butter.

I am planning on giving to the Red Cross but am going to talk to some people at church tomorrow to see if our church (Oak Pointe) might be doing something or know of another charity and if so, I'll split my donation. So kind of you Laura. I've had to turn off the news, I just can't handle seeing the little ones suffering. And the agony that the people are going through not knowing if their loved ones are alive or not.
