I watched a program recently (by Consumer Reports) that said that "prewashed" lettuce isn't necessarily as clean as we might think it is....

The closer to the "use by" date and especially if it contains spinach, the more likely the product is to be contaminated. Brand didn't matter, nor if it was in a bag vs clam shell or if it was organic.

i.e. you still might want to wash prewashed product.
(I had previously eaten it straight from the bag, but will now wash. Sigh. Not as convenient...)Karenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17218511444871314394noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7863110865991625393.post-28286228023219119732010-02-10T16:14:54.176-05:002010-02-10T16:14:54.176-05:00Hi *,

I've never actually calculated out the price, but I appreciate that you have!

I do love the convenience of already diced lettuce, and especially the pre-washed aspect too!

I'm glad that I now know I have other lettuce eating fans out there!Laura Webberhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01164809658415173534noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7863110865991625393.post-12787318131110728462010-02-10T15:28:55.945-05:002010-02-10T15:28:55.945-05:00Just today I purchase a head of Romaine lettuce fr...Just today I purchase a head of Romaine lettuce from Meijer @ $1.49 per pound.

Compare this to regular priced bagged romaine lettuce at Meijer at $2.50 for 9 oz = $4.44/pound !!!

Granted there is a bit of waste in the hunk of lettuce, but not enough to offset the cost of the bagged.

I post this just to point out your savings for the bagged lettuce at GFS were about 50% off for bagged at Meijer, but still more expensive than nonbagged....but more convenient :)Karenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17218511444871314394noreply@blogger.com
